Buying travel insurance could be the difference between an amazing trip and an awful one. When you buy travel insurance, you're protecting yourself from the financial risks and potential costs if something goes wrong on your trip. While it’s not mandatory, it may be worthwhile for any holiday you take, even if you're just going away for a weekend. Whether you're off to New York for a long business trip or you're zooming up the coast on a mini staycation, we offer cover for overseas and domestic trips to over 150 countries. There are options available if you’re unable to use your policy due to travel bans.
We offer four different types of insurance plans, which you may find suitable depending on your travel style and budget such as our Annual Multi-Trip plan.
If you're thinking about buying some travel insurance, you'll be keen to know what it covers. Our plans range from comprehensive to more basic with reduced limits.
Our policies offer cover for loads more scenarios like these, including overseas emergency medical treatment, cancellation, luggage and more.
We don't cover everything though, so it's important you understand the policy exclusions and read the policy wording.

Choosing travel insurance can be confusing, so we've made it easy. We have four plans to choose from, each offering a different level of cover. You'll find loads of information about each one, but the plans on offer range from comprehensive to basic, domestic or international as well as single or multiple trips.
All international plans include cover for overseas medical expenses. Depending on the plan you choose, there may also be cover available for some other Coronavirus related events. Cover is explained in detail here.
As the return date on the policy has passed we can no longer extend the insurance. You can however purchase a new policy from today but keep in mind that a 72 hour waiting period will apply before your cover begins.
There is cover for cancellation or restriction of scheduled public transport services caused by severe weather or natural disasters provided the event has begun after we issued the Certificate of Insurance (COI) under Section 3 – Additional Expenses/Medical Evacuation of our PDS. You also must have done everything reasonably possible to avoid the expenses, and you must obtain written confirmation from the carrier to support any claim.
Cover is available to ride a motorbike provided you are licensed to ride a motorbike in Australia, you hold a valid motorbike licence for the country you are in and you wear a helmet at all times while riding.
You can ride a motorcycle that is the same capacity you are licensed to ride in Australia. If your licence restricts the engine size you can ride, then you will need to stick to that when you are away.
Please ensure you read the PDS for full terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions to cover while riding a motorbike.
Meet Simon
"I broke my arm while in France. The emergency helpline provided by TID was effective, efficient and clear in their instructions. The claims process when I returned home was rigorous, but really fair. I pushed back regarding the exchange rate they had applied, and with the proof I shared, they increased the amount of the payment."
Meet Margot
"My family and I have been using TID for the past 8 years after having it recommended by a friend. I have always had great service and any claims made (both big and small) have been paid out without too much trouble, including a 10 day hospital stay and operation for my daughter while she was travelling in Germany. Any concerns have always been dealt with quickly and easily."
Meet Stephen
"I have relied on TID travel insurance for over twenty trips in recent years. The policies represent outstanding value, and both the website and the app are seamless. On the one occasion that I had to lodge a claim, the process was prompt and efficient. Far and away the best provider in Australia."
