What is Personal Liability Cover? | Travel Insurance Direct

Most of us have heard the term Personal Liability, but perhaps never really understood the full extent of what it actually meant. At Travel Insurance Direct, we’re all about educating and supporting our policyholders, so it’s important to us that you are informed every step of the way.

Personal liability is the coverage for legal liability in the event of someone taking out a legal claim against an insured.

Policyholders have cover available for this benefit under TID’s The Works, The Basics and the Annual Multi Trip plans (limits apply). Cover may apply for costs incurred due to loss or damage to property due to insured's negligence.

Personal Liability also offers cover when you are found legally liable for causing injury to a person who is not a member of your family or travelling party (refer to the PDS for details).

Notable Policy Restrictions

When it comes to loss or damaging property, it cannot be owned by you, a member of your family or travelling party nor can it be in your or their custody or control.

Further to this TID does not provide cover for claims arising from:

  • your trade, business or profession
  • injury to an employee arising out of or in the course of their employment by you
  • an unlawful, wilful and malicious act
  • your ownership, use or possession, even as a passenger, of a mechanically propelled vehicle, aircraft or watercraft
  • you passing on an illness or disease to someone else

Need Emergency Assistance?

In the event of a medical emergency, you must contact TID’s Emergency Assistance team. They can consult with any local treating doctor about your condition and decide whether or not you need to be moved and the most appropriate type of transport. The Emergency Assistance team will make the arrangements to move you if it is required.
