At Travel Insurance Direct our policies – The Basics, The Works, Annual Multi Trip and Domestic - automatically cover you for Diabetes Mellitus (Types 1 and 2) as part of the more than 40 existing medical conditions which may be present at the time you purchase your policy.

You can be covered for claims arising from or related to diabetes, provided that at the time you buy your policy, you:

  • were diagnosed more than 6 months ago; and
  • haven't had any complications in the last six months;
  • have no eye, kidney, nerve or vascular complications; and
  • have a blood sugar level reading between 4 and 12 or a HbA1C score of 9% or less; and
  • have no known cardiovascular/coronary heart disease.

Please note: if you have an existing medical condition that is not an automatically covered medical condition by our policy, you won’t be covered for claims arising from your existing medical condition. To see if your existing medical condition can be automatically covered, click here.

If you have an existing medical condition other than those automatically covered, please contact us to complete a medical screening assessment, which must be completed before the Certificate of Insurance can be issued.

Assessment of your existing medical condition is available online during the purchasing process or over the phone. You may ring 1300 410 272 to be assessed; just have details of your medical history ready when you call.
