You’ll then go through a quick 4-step process where you can select the plan that best suits your travel needs, add in a promo code to get that juicy discount, and then add any benefits or add-ons to suit your policy, for example you can add the snow sports cover option, and cancellation limits option.

You can submit your claim online through your account. Keep all receipts, medical reports, and supporting documents for a smooth claims process.

Yes, you may extend your policy while abroad, but terms and conditions apply. It’s best to check with us before your policy expires.

You can purchase a new policy even if you’re already enjoying your holiday, but a 72-hour waiting period will apply before cover begins. Trip must end at home in Australia, please note we can’t cover the middle of a trip. AMT is not available while already travelling.

Our policies only allow two adults per policy. The Product Disclosure Statement (PDS), which can be found in the TID Policy Hub, is your insurance go to page. Not only does it provide all the information about a policy, but it also includes definitions that assist you in navigating through the insurance process.

All international plans include cover for overseas medical expenses. Depending on your plan, additional COVID-related events may also be covered.

Our Customer Service team is just a phone call away, ready and able to help you navigate your policy, and what you may be covered for. We also continually make updates to keep customers informed and publish information on major travel events on our website.

When you buy a TID travel insurance policy, your payment is made securely online via a secure payment gateway.

We use a 128-Bit SSL encrypted payment, this means your card information is never stored, we simply receive authorisation from the banking institution.

TID is PCI DSS compliant which means we comply with the Payment Card Industry's Data Security Standard.

If you buy over the phone when you contact us, your payment will still be processed through our website, with the same level of security.

When you are completing your claim online, we ask you for electronic copies of all documents. However, for all claims, you need to be able to provide us with the originals if we request them.

When booking your travel arrangements, keep your original documents and receipts to make claiming easier if required.

While travelling, keep medical reports or police statements saved or filed safely until after your claim has been finalised. You'll usually need to upload or email clear copies of all documents, and we may request originals later for verification – so don't throw anything away.

If your documents are lost or stolen, provide supporting evidence (e.g., a police report or written confirmation).

Important: Scan or photograph your documents before travelling for easy access if needed overseas.

When you get a travel insurance quote with Travel Insurance Direct you’ll be able to email it to yourself during the quote process.

NOTE: please be aware that if you leave the page or don’t email yourself the quote, all of the information previously entered in your quote will be lost.

Step 1:

When you begin your quote you'll be asked to enter a few details:

  • Trip type
  • Where you're going
  • When you're travelling
  • Number of travellers
  • Age of each traveller

If you select ‘family’, you’ll see a pop-up window asking to confirm if any travellers are your dependants. For example, if any of your dependants are not travelling with you for the entire duration of your trip or working 30 hours or more they will need to get a separate travel insurance policy as an adult.

If you do not select family but you are travelling with someone under the age of 21, you will have the option to add them as a dependant on the Details page.

Important: Dependants do not have an impact on your policy premium, which is why their details are collected later in the quote process.

Step 2:

On the Plans page you can:

  • Email yourself the quote
  • Apply a promo code to access a juicy discount
  • Read the PDS (always fun, especially as a weekend read)
  • Edit your trip details, just in case you need to update any information.

Step 3:

On the Options page, select if you want to add extra optional benefits such as:

  • Cancellation limit option
  • Specified Items option
  • Snow Sports option
  • Variable Excess option
  • Making a micro-donation for a great cause

When you have completed step 3, you will be asked to accept the Terms & Conditions before proceeding to payment.

Step 4:

On the payment page you’ll need to enter your credit card details and then ‘Buy Now’.

Once your purchase is confirmed, you'll receive a confirmation email with all your details including your Certificate of Insurance, the PDS, TMD and other important information.

If you have purchased a travel insurance policy and would like to nominate someone as an Authorised person, you need to contact us and provide their details. To understand more about what an Authorised person can do, contact our customer service team and we can explain how the process works.
