TWO WEEKS/LAKE TITICACA, LA PAZ, CORDILLERA & THE YUNGAS
The area around La Paz is packed with highlights, from ancient Inca ruins to jagged peaks and sleepy weekend retreats. Two weeks is just enough time to introduce adventurous travelers to the diverse range of activities on offer in Bolivia.

A popular way to enter Bolivia is to come in overland from Peru. Get to know the festive Bolivian spirit in Copacabana, where the scenery is amazing and R&R inevitable. After a day or two, hike to the tiny port of Yampupata, where boats ferry passengers across Lake Titicaca to tranquil Isla del Sol. After a couple of days exploring Inca ruins and watching the moon rise over Isla de la Luna, head back to the mainland.
From Copacabana, catch a bus (it'll be crowded) across the Tiquina Strait to La Paz. The Altiplano at sunset with the Cordillera Real as a backdrop is stunning. Spend a few days exploring the hectic markets, museums and streets of Bolivia's de facto capital city before taking a day-trip to Tiahuanaco or climbing to the 5395m summit of Chacaltaya, the world's highest developed ski slope.
Once you're acclimated, it's time to pick up the pace by hiking the Choro Trek or mountain biking the World's Most Dangerous Road down to the serene little town of Coroico in the Yungas. Starting out in thick fog at 4275m, you'll descend a thrilling 3600m past waterfalls and an incredible range of spectacular scenery. In Coroico many people prefer a poolside hammock but thrill seekers will want to hit the Rio Coroico for some whitewater rafting or kayaking before returning to La Paz.
