Travel Agents Travel Insurance

Many people buy their travel insurance when they buy their travel tickets. Travel agents often make the sale in much the same way fast food restaurants ask “would you like fries with that?"

Some travel agents in the market are:

  • Flight Centre
  • Harvey World Travel
  • The Travel Company

You need the insurance but you are probably being overcharged! Pay more attention to travel insurance. Here’s why:

  • Travel experts, not insurance experts: Travel agents like Flight Centre are very good at arranging the best deals for your travel and accommodation. But they are not insurance experts.
  • Extra premiums for electronic goods: Flight Centre’s policy charges extra premiums if you want to replace lost or stolen electronic goods. Travel Insurance Direct simply has more generous payouts so you get the money you need for new gear!
  • Sports lovers pay more: many people travel overseas to ski, play golf or just ‘have a go’ of some unusual sport while they are on holiday. But not all insurance policies will automatically cover you for sporting activities – so make sure you check what’s covered before you buy.
  • Flight Centre Agents think that you won't notice the insurance price because you are paying a bigger amount on the holiday.

Hints & Tips:

When making the region selection, choose the region where you will spend the majority of your trip and this will also cover you for all other areas you travel to.

For example, if you are spending 3 days in Singapore, 2 weeks in the UK and 4 weeks in Europe, select 'Europe' as your destination and you will be covered in Singapore and the UK also.

Travel Insurance Direct vs Travel Agent travel insurance

Travel Insurance Direct is a travel insurance specialist, designed for discerning travellers who realise that a “fries with that?" approach is not enough when you travel.

Travel agents typically earn anything between 30% and 50% commission on travel insurance products that they sell. We don’t pressure you at the point of sale and are always ready to explain our products in detail when you call 1300 843 843.

Our cover is comprehensive and generous. Our standard cover pays up to $24,000 for lost luggage, including up to $4,000 each for things like laptops and cameras on a family policy.

In many cases, we are also cheaper than other sources of travel insurance: compare our premiums to those provided by your travel agent and we are confident you’ll appreciate the difference.
