Travel Insurance for Cameras and Personal Tech

Get your phone, camera, laptops and tablets covered.

How does travel insurance cover my cameras, phones, laptops and personal technology?

Nobody leaves home without their phone anymore – let alone while travelling. Phones, laptops and smartphones are just some of the devices used to capture your holiday or keep in touch with those back at home. You might even want to combine a bit of work with play and bring your personal laptop along. Our The Works, Annual Multi Trip, and Domestics Plans include cover for these items if they’re lost, stolen or damaged, subject to terms and conditions of the policy and the exclusions and benefit limits that apply.

Are there limits on what’s covered?

Yes - benefit limits apply with sub limits for camera and video equipment as well as smartphones and other items. If you want to increase this cover, you can request to add it for an additional premium. You’ll just need to specify the amount you want it covered for, up to the maximum limit, when you purchase your travel insurance policy.

What standard cover is available for cameras phones and tech?

  • The cover and benefits available on all our plans differ . You should be aware that taking, cameras, smartphones and personal tech with your while travelling carries risk, as they’re frequently targeted by thieves.
  • Our plans include cover for the loss, theft or damage to your personal items that are accompanying you while on your trip. If you leave your tech gear unattended, even if it’s in a locked car, caravan or storage facility, then they may not be covered.
  • Make sure you keep an eye on it at all times and never leave your laptop or phone on a table to go pay the bill or say hello to someone – it may leave you out of pocket.

What's not covered?

There’s a number of exclusions you should be aware of – the full list is outlined in the PDS. Some of the things we don’t cover include:
  • damage to computer, tablet or smartphone screens at any time;
  • damage to software or applications;
  • luggage or personal effects that are being transported independently of you;
  • luggage or personal effects that you leave unattended or that you didn’t take reasonable care to protect;
  • When you’re entitled to compensation from the carrier for the loss;
  • personal computers, smartphones, communication or photographic equipment, electronic equipment, jewellery or watches left by you in a motor vehicle, a motor home or a caravan for any length of time, even if they are locked in the motor vehicle, motor home or caravan;
  • personal computers, smartphones, communication or photographic equipment, electronic equipment checked in as luggage;
  • This list is not exhaustive. For full terms, conditions, limitations, and exclusions read the PDS and consider if the product suits your needs.
